Lee Buchanan’s Derby County exit has been signposted for some time but with David Clowes’ takeover now done, the Rams can shift their attention to finding a replacement.

The left-back’s move to Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has now been confirmed but things aren’t wrapped up just yet as compensation is still to be decided.

It’s uncertain how much the East Midlands club will get from the German outfit but one thing that is clear is that Liam Rosenior will need to get a replacement before the start of the 2022/23 League One campaign.

He’ll likely already have a shortlist of targets and in-demand Crystal Palace teenager Tayo Adaramola should be on it.

Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon that MK Dons, Coventry City, and Preston North End are all interested in the 18-year-old, who is highly thought of at Selhurst Park but lacking in senior experience at this point.

What he will offer is energy and hunger as well as a threat when bursting down the left flank and an industrious defensive approach.

Those traits can help him succeed at League One level and he should get plenty of opportunities under Rosenior if Derby can win the race for him.

Admittedly, beating out interest from Championship clubs will not be easy but the Rams can likely guarantee him more minutes than either Preston or Coventry.

That should be what Palace are looking for, with a season of regular football in League One arguably more useful for Adaramola than fewer opportunities in the Championship.

Derby have begun to rebuild their squad after the takeover deal went through and you’d imagine they will be keen to make the most of the loan market – given just how many new players they need.

Left-back has to be a position they strengthen with Buchanan now gone and it would be a mistake not to at least enquire about the Palace 18-year-old’s services as he could help them replace Werder Bremen’s new signing.

Coventry and Preston will likely have an advantage but if the Eagles prefer guaranteed minutes, then the Rams may just be able to win the race for the teenager.
