Immobile’s Late Penalty Rescues a Point for Lazio in 1-1 Draw vs Torino

Star striker Ciro Immobile salvaged a point for Lazio with a late penalty in their 1-1 draw with Torino last night.

Coach Maurizio Sarri experimented with a more defensive-minded midfield in the match, leaving Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on the bench, but the risk did not pay off, with the Roman club struggling to impose themselves in the match.

The first half saw Torino push from the outset, playing a positive game under coach Ivan Juric. The Granata had the majority of the early chances, although Lazio striker Immobile did manage to take a decent long shot. The rest of the first half was a sluggish battle in the midfield, with Torino having a slight advantage in terms of chances.

Going into the break with things level at 0-0, the Granata held a slight majority of the ball, having 53% possession. They had also taken eight shots compared to the Biancocelesti’s two, although both sides only had one on target each.

In the second half, Lazio almost took an early lead with a nice movement from the front three, but Pedro’s attempt was just wide. The Biancocelesti were dominant in possession but struggled to break down Juric’s side, having only four shots all half, with only one on target.

In the 76th minute, Torino took the lead, with Pjaca’s header beating Reina from close range. The Granata almost doubled their lead a few minutes later, but this time the Spanish veteran pulled off an important save.

Torino goalkeeper Milinkovic-Savic denied Immobile in the 88th minute with a key save as well, frustrating the Roman club as they desperately searched for an equaliser.

Lazio’s persistence paid off in the 90th minute, with Djidji fouling Muriqi in the penalty area, leading the referee to call for a penalty kick. Immobile made no mistake from 12 yards, sending Milinkovic-Savic the wrong way as he tied up the game 1-1.

Lazio tried to find a late winner in the dying minutes to no avail, leaving the game all tied up by the final whistle.
