Ciro Immobile rediscovered his mojo as he netted a brace to guide Lazio to a 2-0 win away to Salernitana.

The Biancocelesti had experienced a slight drop in form following their 4-0 win over Milan, but a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the Europa Conference League knockout play-offs against CFR Cluj restored some confidence in Maurizio Sarri’s squad, visible in their clash at the Stadio Arechi.

Lazio dictated proceedings throughout the 90 minutes in Campania, playing more than double Salernitana’s passes – 661 to 320. It was an important response from Sarri’s side, who produced an incredible 3.04 expected goals from 21 shots, far higher than the Gratana’s 0.44 xG.

It took an hour for Lazio to finally find a breakthrough, however. A nice run into space by a marauding Adam Marusic saw him collect the ball and sprint into the box, where he played a perfectly weighted pass to Immobile, who made no mistake from less than six yards out to put his side 1-0 up.

Only seven minutes later and the Biancocelesti were handed a golden chance, this time thanks to a foul on the 32-year-old captain by Luigi Sepe in the penalty area. After a VAR check, Lazio were awarded the spot-kick, which was duly dispatched by Immobile, giving him his brace.

Salernitana’s Dylan Bronn was shown a second yellow card in the 88th minute, ending his afternoon early.

Lazio were awarded another penalty in the dying minutes of the match, this time thanks to a foul on Matteo Cancellieri. Luis Alberto stepped up, with Immobile having stepped off a few minutes earlier, but his lukewarm attempt was comfortably parried away by Sepe. The rebound flew wide, leaving the Spaniard to hold his head in his heads.

Despite the disappointing ending, it was still a strong and important win for Lazio, cruising to victory over Salernitana and reminding the fans just how entertaining and electric they can be on their day.
