Spezia manager Luca Gotti has admitted that it’s “frustrating” to lose Jakub Kiwior amid reports claiming that his move to Arsenal is set to be announced.

Kiwior is expected to be Arsenal’s second signing of the January transfer window. They have already recruited Leandro Trossard from Premier League rivals Brighton.

Trossard was targeted after the Gunners were unable to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk before the winger joined Chelsea.

Poland international Kiwior will likely be a useful addition as the left-footed centre-back will provide competition for Gabriel Magalhaes.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Sunday morning that Kiwior has ‘completed all medical tests’ ahead of his switch to Arsenal.

‘Arsenal have been tracking Jakub Kiwior for months; they already had contacts on player side before the World Cup, he will sign the contract within the next 24 hours.

‘West Ham wanted him last summer, Juventus were scouting him and AC Milan negotiated with Spezia in November.

‘Kiwior completed all the medical tests on Sunday — he will be unveiled soon as a new Arsenal player once his five-and-a-half-year deal is signed. Spezia and Arsenal have already signed all documents on a €25m deal.’

The 22-year-old has been a regular in Serie A over the past two years and Gotti is “frustrated” that Spezia will not see the best of Kiwior.

“I am very happy for Kiwior and this opportunity he created for himself. It is also the biggest sale in Spezia’s history and I imagine the club is happy with that too,” Gotti said in a press conference (via GOAL).

“However, I cannot be happy with it. There are coaches who constantly complain and ask for reinforcements, that is not me but I am often in a situation where my clubs sell at a big profit.

“That doesn’t mean the players who arrive to replace them are worse, they are merely less ready to deliver. It is frustrating for a coach, as when you work to build them up, you then don’t get to enjoy the fruits of your labour, as they are sold and you press the reset button.”

Arsenal are not going to finish there as they are also keen to sign 18-year-old Ivan Fresneda from Rayo Valladolid.

The young right-back is being targeted as a potential replacement for Cedric Soares, who is being linked with Fulham.

Romano adds that Arsenal are ‘seriously targeting’ the young Spaniard.

‘Arsenal have opened talks over signing Ivan Fresneda, who was not in Valladolid’s starting XI because of these negotiations,’ Romano added.

‘Newcastle are also interested, and the player’s agents will be in London next week to speak to English clubs.

‘Arsenal are now seriously targeting the talented young right-back, so it’s one to watch, particularly if Cedric Soares ends up joining Fulham.’
