Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes responds to being taken off against Liverpool

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes was not a happy man in our match against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Portuguese was United’s best player over the last year. He went into the match at Anfield having won the Premier League Player of the Month for December.

He failed to make much of an impact against Liverpool and largely struggled against Thiago Alcantara.

Fernandes was taken off in the second half for Mason Greenwood. The 26-year-old was not happy about it and gestured frantically while heading off.

Following the match, he took to Instagram to post a cryptic message. It appeared to suggest that the point gained at Anfield could have huge implications in the final scheme of things.

“One day, when you look back, you will see that the most beautiful days were those you fought on. #MUFC @ManUtd.”

Speaking after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that taking off the midfielder was a tactical decision. Fernandes can have little complaints given his performance on the night.

He misplaced 58% of his passes, the worst of any outfield player who started the game, and was largely chasing shadows in the first half. While attitude is well and good, it amounts to little when you cannot back it up on the pitch.

Yesterday was not Fernandes’ night and we for one perfectly understand Solskjaer’s decision.

The Portuguese international went close on a handful of times to break the deadlock. However, none of them troubled the Liverpool defence much.

Despite the forgettable night, Fernandes is our best attacking midfielder going forward. He will soon have another opportunity to put yesterday’s memory to rest.
