Arsenal are unlikely to enter the transfer market for new signings before the 11pm deadline, according to Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill.

The Gunners have had a mixed Premier League campaign due to injuries and inconsistent form, but the club still have an outside chance of winning the title.

Manager Mikel Arteta has repeatedly said that the board are working hard to reinforce the squad, but Cotterill has revealed that there won’t be any activity.

He said there will be no ins and outs before the transfer window closes tonight.

Cotterill said: “I’m told and it is my understanding that there will be no ins and no outs today at Arsenal and indeed in the whole of January. No business, we understand, at Arsenal.”

Arsenal’s inactivity could prove costly in title pursuit

The Gunners are presently without Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus with lengthy injuries. Saka has been tipped to return in March but may need more time to get up to speed.

Jesus, on the other hand, is out for the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury.

There is now an over-reliance on Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli in the final third.

Ethan Nwaneri looks a huge prospect. The 17-year-old could get his fair share of playing time on the right wing in the coming weeks to compensate for Saka’s absence.

Nonetheless, the fans would ideally prefer a marquee signing before the deadline, given Raheem Sterling has been far from impressive since his loan switch from Chelsea.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins seemed a good choice for the Gunners, but the door closed for his transfer as soon as Jhon Duran made the switch to Saudi with Al-Nassr.

Arsenal’s lack of investment this winter could prove costly in their title pursuit. The Gunners can’t afford any more injuries in the attacking department with options being limited.
