La Liga giants Barcelona have late this week been harshly criticised for their recent treatment of goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
This, of course, comes fresh off a tumultuous week for the German in Catalunya’s capital.
Ter Stegen was for his part stripped of the captaincy in Hansi Flick’s squad this past Thursday.
As much came owing to a dispute between club and player, regarding the latter’s refusal to sign off on a medical report regarding his recent back surgery.
Even prior to this latest fallout, though, rumours had long been in circulation in the Spanish media regarding alleged infractions on Ter Stegen’s part.
These developments saw many question whether Barcelona may be purposely leaking information, to paint their long-time no.1 in a negative light.
And as alluded to above, despite the captain’s armband having since been returned to Ter Stegen, the Camp Nou brass have in turn this weekend been called out once more.
Speaking during an interview with Sport1, as cited by Diario Sport, Carsten Ramelow, president of the German Footballers’ Union, did not hold back in his criticism of the Blaugrana:
“What is happening at Barça is undignified. What image is Barcelona giving to the outside world now? I think it’s very bad. To want to end like this, I’m speechless.
“Unfortunately, this seems to be the current trend in football. It can’t be that a player is only interesting as long as he wears the club shirt and performs at the highest level.”
