Derby County have been told to secure the defender's services
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Derby County have enjoyed a productive summer window ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.
John Eustace has added Patrick Agyemang, Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Richard O'Donnell, Carlton Morris and Owen Beck to his ranks, dramatically raising the level of Derby’s squad when compared to last term.
The Rams’ faithful will therefore be hoping to improve on the 19th place they achieved last season, and some extra signings towards the end of the window could make an overwhelming difference across 46 games.
Football League World’s Derby County fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, has highlighted one deal Eustace and Co. could look to get over the line in the coming weeks.
“I'd like to see us go for Callum Brittain,” stated Shaun.
“I know that there's been interest from us and we've apparently put a bid in for him.
“I think he is a really experienced full-back in this league, has made hundreds of appearances and is really consistent. He's at a really good age as well.
“So, he'd be an excellent signing for us. The fact that Ryan Nyambe is always injured and rarely plays means that we need depth in that area.
“Kane Wilson is much better if he's in more of an attacking role. So, signing Brittain would free him up, knowing that there's a really good consistent full-back behind him.
“I think it'd be an excellent addition, and John Eustace likes to build from the back. I think with him on one side and Owen Beck on the other we'd have a really solid platform to do so.
“I’m really excited and I think if Brittain signs, we've got an excellent back four.”
Both Middlesbrough and Derby County have held a well-reported interest in Brittain this summer, after the full-back refused to sign a new deal at Ewood Park.
Boro are believed to have tabled a higher offer than Derby for the 27-year-old, after seeing their first bid of £2.5 million rejected.
This naturally means that the Rams currently look second-best to sign the Blackburn Rovers man, and the only way they can change that is by outbidding the North East outfit.
Eustace has shown his desire to recruit talent from his former side this window and will be disappointed to miss out on Brittain if he is sold.
Therefore, Derby must find the extra funds if they want to beat Middlesbrough to a top-quality Championship full-back who would take their defence up a level.
