Reported Liverpool transfer target Boubacar Kamara has left the door wide open to an exit from Ligue 1 side Marseille at the end of the season.

Calcio Mercato claimed earlier this year, in March, that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Kamara ahead of the summer transfer window.

Kamara says he will sit down in the coming months and decide what his next step will be, whilst admitting that his time with Marseille has prepared him for any potential challenge he may face elsewhere.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Kamara refused to rule out a transfer this summer. “I would like to finish the season. There are five games left. Then sit down this summer and think about the rest. I think I’m ready to go anywhere after what I have experienced at OM.

“What can convince me to stay? It’s more the sporting project. I’ve been a pro for four years, I have experienced a little of everything here. The sporting project will make me make my decision.

“In view of this season, we knew very well we weren’t going to (finish in the top four). There are four teams in front. It’s not the Champions League that will be a problem for me to re-sign or not.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

This could potentially be a huge boost to Liverpool in their efforts to sign the defender this summer. If Kamara decides that he wants to leave Marseille at the end of the season and pursue a move elsewhere, possibly to Liverpool, then the French club may need to facilitate his wishes. Kamara is out of contract in 2022 and this means that Marseille would run the risk of losing him on a free transfer if they do not cash in on him now.

Liverpool could then haggle down to a bargain price for Kamara, knowing that they can use his contract situation as leverage in the negotiations. Kamara opening the door to a move could, therefore, give Liverpool a greater chance of being able to sign him by lowering his potential price tag whilst also showing that he is ready for a transfer personally.
