It certainly took him a while to get into the tie, but Paris Saint Germain’s talisman Kylian Mbappé (25) eventually had his say on the outcome of the clash with Barcelona, scoring twice in the second half to seal a 4-1 win and the club’s passage into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2021.

It is widely reported that this will be the Frenchman’s last campaign for PSG before a protracted move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer, but the player remains fully focused on what is left to play for this season:

” I have been proud to be here since the first day. It’s not because there are good moments and bad moments that my pride takes a hit. The pride to play for this club, to represent the club of the capital of my country is something special for someone like me who has grown up in the city. Of course, experiencing nights like this as a Parisian is great, but we are capable of more and we have to remain calm.”

Mbappé chose to strike the same tone as PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi after the match, emphasising the need to look forward and be ready for the challenges ahead, all whilst maintaining his dream of winning the Champions League with his hometown club:

“Of course it’s a dream of mine to win it with Paris, and today is one more step towards that, against a big team. Good luck to them but this moment is for us and we will try to go to the final at Wembley. We worked for six days between these two games to prepare this game. We played a great game as a team and as a group, with the staff and everyone. We worked with the idea that we would win here, and it’s certainly a great day for the club.” “I’ve already said that I am and was proud to represent this club even when we lost. I am always proud to be Parisian. For sure, on nights like this the pride is even greater, we are very happy. We were a team that was ready to fight and that’s what we did, congratulations to the whole group. It’s also for the supporters, they travelled far to get here and the organisation of the match from a fan’s perspective was a struggle, given the issues with tickets, so of course we thought of them and we wish them a safe journey home. Be careful, take care of yourselves and your families, and we continue all together to the semi-finals”

PSG will face Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals, after they too overturned a first leg deficit to prevail 5-4 on aggregate against Atlético Madrid.
