Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have debated which club Jamie Vardy could join after his exit from Leicester City.
Micah Richards tipped Wrexham as a potential destination for Jamie Vardy after his Leicester City exit when discussing the striker's situation with fellow pundits Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.
In an emotional video posted on social media last week, Vardy announced that he will be leaving Leicester at the end of his contract this summer, 13 years after joining the club from then non-league side Fleetwood Town for a fee of just £1 million in 2012.
Vardy has enjoyed a remarkable spell at the King Power Stadium, winning the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and two Championship titles, as well as featuring for the Foxes in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, and collecting a host of individual accolades.
Unfortunately for Vardy, Leicester have suffered relegation from the top flight during his final season in the Midlands, with the 38-year-old recently describing their campaign as "a total embarrassment", but with four games still to play, he will no doubt be hoping to get on the scoresheet twice in order to reach the 200-goal mark for the club.
Vardy has been linked with a summer move to Wrexham, who will be playing in the Championship next season after securing their third consecutive promotion last week, but according to Sky Sports, the striker is reluctant to drop into the EFL and believes he can still perform at Premier League level.
It seems that Vardy could be given the opportunity to remain in the top flight, with The Sun claiming that Wolverhampton Wanderers are the front-runners to land his signature, while he is also said to be on the radar of West Ham United, as well as newly-promoted duo Leeds United and Burnley.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Leicester supporter Lineker paid tribute to Vardy after his departure from the King Power Stadium was confirmed, and he wished the striker well as he prepares to make his next move.
"I'd like to just thank Jamie for all he's done for Leicester City Football Club. He's inimitable," Lineker said.
“He can be a bit of a ****house at times on the pitch for everyone, but I always think in a brilliant way. He's been one of the game's great finishers.
"He's done some incredible things. He was part of obviously the title winning team in 2016 and then the FA Cup winning team as well.
"He's been incredibly consistent and has very much been an absolute hero of all Leicester City fans. So thank you, Jamie Vardy, and good luck with whatever comes next."
The discussion then turned to Vardy's potential next club, and Richards suggested a move to Wales could be on the cards, claiming: "I'm hearing Wrexham guys. He wants to go to Wrexham."
That was greeted by a humourous response from Shearer, who joked: "There might not be much sunshine there", and Lineker then questioned whether Vardy could consider a switch abroad this summer, stating: "I can see him in the MLS."
There has been plenty of talk about Vardy making the move to Wrexham this summer, while some have speculated about an emotional return to boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday, but his EFL suitors may be set for disappointment after it was revealed that he is keen to stay in the Premier League.
Vardy has scored eight goals in 32 appearances this season, which is a respectable return for a relegated Leicester side who have seriously struggled in front of goal, and his record suggests that, despite now being 38 years of age, he can still do a job in the top flight.
With Wolves, West Ham, Leeds and Burnley all said to be interested in Vardy, it seems that he will get the chance to play Premier League football again next season, but he will likely also have no shortage of offers from EFL and overseas clubs over the coming months as he weighs up his next steps.
