FC Barcelona have been quite meticulous in terms of their approach towards this recent transfer window. Instead of jumping towards signing players, they have instead decided to look within first. By doing so, Barcelona have progressed well with player renewals.

For the Catalan giants, it is essential that they retain their most important players and do so in a way that keeps them happy as well. Beyond just holding negotiations, however, Barcelona have also managed to tie down several key players officially by now.

First came the renewal of Raphinha, who has been simply sensational for the club this season. Now, not too long after that, even 17-year-old Lamine Yamal’s contract renewal has been made official and it keeps him at the club until 2031.

Ronald Araujo makes things clear

However, there are certain players who already have long-term contracts signed but their futures remain uncertain. One such player is Ronald Araujo, a 26-year-old Uruguayan defender who also happens to be one the club’s captains.

Yet, despite the rumors linking him to a potential exit in the summer transfer window, the player’s own stance remains clear enough it seems. As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the Barcelona captain clarified his own perspective about things:

“I’m Barça captain and I’m gonna stay at the club. I’m under contract until June 2031.”

Barcelona continues to back him

A massive statement from the Uruguayan defender, especially considering the criticism that has come his way this season. While the club eventually gets to decide what to do in such a case, it also seems like Hansi Flick and even Deco have faith in his abilities.

Either way, it is true that Araujo remains committed to a long-term contract with Barcelona that was signed not too long ago. As per the agreement, his stay with Barça is essentially a guarantee until and unless the club or the player himself decide that it is time to look for other options.
