Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has hinted at a return to first-team football after a lengthy absence due to injury.

The 23-year-old has been sidelined for Manchester City since the start of December, missing nine successive matches for Pep Guardiola’s side across the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and Emirates FA Cup.

Haaland hasn’t featured since a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday 6th December, where the Norway international suffered a foot injury, which has hugely impacted Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes.

Despite missing over a month of action, Haaland still jointly-leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with 14 goals so far this season, with the striker having netted 19 across all competitions.

The forward had returned to first-team training in the new year but suffered a fresh setback to his recovery, making the Norwegian a doubt for City’s upcoming matches against Tottenham and Burnley.

Guardiola’s side travel to Spurs in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round on Friday, prior to hosting Burnley in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 31st January.

Manchester City are scheduled to play six matches in February, with Guardiola hoping to welcome back Haaland, John Stones and Manuel Akanji for a crucial month of fixtures.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, Haaland has hinted at a future return for the Blues, saying: “I hope to be back really soon from injury, I’m getting bored of not playing.”

The 23-year-old was amongst a number of Manchester City players in attendance at the awards, with the squad currently in the Middle East for a warm-weather training camp.

The City squad are partaking in a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, returning to the country after a successful trip in 2022.
