Reading’s dismal away form continued on Saturday as they were hammered 5-0 by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Whilst the Royals are currently 15th and 12 points clear of the relegation zone, they are set to receive a points deduction which could mean they are dragged in a battle to stay up.

Whatever happens though, it’s fair to say boss Paul Ince is becoming a divisive figure among the support as some call on the boss to go.

The display against Boro was the latest collapse away from home and a section of the fans are not happy with the style of play and lack of ambition to attack.

And, FLW fan pundit Johnny admitted he is torn on whether Ince is the right man for the job.

It’s a real tough one about Ince and whether he should be sacked. Half of me says no, the other half yes. The away form is terrible but luckily our home form is amazing but I’m not sure that’s down to him as a manager, the fans and players are in together.

I’m fed up of his blaming of everyone but himself. On Saturday it was the ref, yeah we could have had a penalty but we didn’t get one, so you just carry on with the game. That negativity feeds into the players and how many 4-0 defeats have we had under Ince now?

But, I don’t know what the solution is. We’ve got 12 games to go, who are we going to get in at this stage that will change it? I don’t know if the owners will change it and obviously his son is there as well and that factors into it.”

What club did Reading FC sign each of these 29 players from?

The verdict

As Johnny says, this is a tough one to call as on one hand it should be noted that Reading were expected to be in a relegation battle and without a points deduction Ince would keep them in the league easily, which warrants a lot of praise.

Having said that, the performances are alarming and criticism of the way the side play are valid because they really should be capable of more.

You wouldn’t expect anything before the season ends, but a big decision looms for the Reading hierarchy.
