Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has admitted that he is going through a tough period in terms of form and is working hard to end his struggles on the pitch.
Mane, who scored in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Leeds on Monday, says that he would have struggled to deal with his current situation a few years ago as he was less experienced back then.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Mane opened up on his recent struggles. “It’s a really, really tough time for me, we have to recognise that, but it’s part of football and I already know it so I’m dealing with it and trying to work as hard as I can to help the team more.
“A few years ago, I would maybe struggle a bit more but now I have more experience and know a bit more about football so I know how this kind of time is.
“It’s my first time but, to be honest, I never doubt [myself]. I just try to be more positive than I’ve ever been, so that’s it.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Mane’s strike against Leeds was his first for Liverpool in 10 Premier League appearances, which goes to show how much he has struggled with his end product this season. He has managed eight goals and five assists in the Premier League in 29 appearances, whereas last season, Mane produced 18 goals and seven assists in 35 appearances for the club. This shows that he has regressed this year as he has not been able to match his form from the previous campaign.
The former Southampton man has made it clear that he has the experience required to turn it around and is backing himself to get over this hump in the road. Hopefully, his goal against Leeds can be used as a springboard to propel him back into form and allow him to end the season strongly to prepare himself to go again next term. It is all now down to Mane to prove that he still has the quality to consistently deliver at the top level for Liverpool moving forwards.
