Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has revealed that “a few things away from football” had prevented him from being himself at the start of this season, whilst in conversation with The Lutonian.

The Hatters frontman, who opened his account for the season last night during Luton’s 3-3 draw at home to Huddersfield Town, ended up with a brace.

It was certainly the 24-year-old’s best display of the season, with the towering striker’s all-round play back at a very high level throughout.

Speaking about the difficulties he has faced off-the-pitch at the start of this campaign, Adebayo told The Lutonian: “I’m an honest person and I know I’ve not been at it for the last couple of weeks.

“The international break came at a good time for me, it gave me time to reset, do a lot of work without having a game and then get myself ready for the games coming up.

“I think (against) Hull and Huddersfield, I’ve looked more like myself and I just want to continue that for the rest of the season now.

“I’ve had a few things away from football that have gone on in my life. The gaffer’s been really good with me, telling me, ‘just keep going’.

“The international break was good for me. It gave me a chance to clear my head, go away, really work hard and come back firing.

Did Luton win, lose or draw the last time they played at the City Ground?

Win Lose Draw

“He (Nathan Jones) just said, ‘listen, I want the Elijah that I had last year.’ I said, ‘I feel much, much better after the break and I’m ready to give it another good go’.

“He’s been fantastic. He knows I’ve been having a tough time, but he still puts me in there because he knows that days like today can come around and I can be how I was.

“This is how I’m going to carry on being for the rest of the season. I feel better. I feel, basically, more like myself now.”

The verdict

Adebayo will be hoping that his brace against the Terriers will throw back into the goals, especially with some tough and exciting fixtures coming up.

The Luton forward has all the desirable attributes to thrive once again this season, and whilst confidence has been low, his physicality and pressing ability has remained there for all to see.

Even during these difficult few weeks for Adebayo, Jones has stuck by him, as he knows what the former Walsall man is capable of.

Carlton Morris, alongside a high on confidence Adebayo, has to be considered as one of the most frightening strike partnerships in the entire division.
