Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery (18) has enjoyed a meteoric rise under Luis Enrique, making 22 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

The young talent has been called up to Didier Deschamps’ squad for France’s forthcoming friendlies against Germany and Chile, and approached his press conference with the same maturity that has characterised his rapid development as a player:

” I am a man now, even though I was already quite mature. I am growing every day. I am very happy and proud to represent France. It’s true that I scored on my debut but then I get injured, but it is what it is. I would love to represent France at the Euros and the Olympics, why not? But it’s not up to me to choose.”

The prospect of Zaire-Emery participating in both tournaments is very real, with France U23 coach Thierry Henry having eulogised the precocious teenager earlier this season:

“I gave him the armband because I wanted to see the next thing. I know that physically, he is strong, he can run, he can see a pass, he can stop a counter. I want to know if he can also stop a player by talking. I gave him the armband to know if he could direct the team and talk. That was my way of seeing if he could do that, and trust me, he can. This guy has no limits.”

The sky is indeed the limit for Warren Zaire-Emery, already a mainstay in one of the best club sides in Europe and one of the first names on the Équipe de France team sheet.
