As the 2024-25 season approaches its conclusion, FC Barcelona are already planning for the upcoming summer transfer window to mitigate the weaknesses present in the current team.
The Blaugranes have been linked with several notable players in the last few weeks, but one with whom they were reported to be particularly close was the German defender Jonathan Tah.
The veteran centre-back is going to leave Bayer Leverkusen as his contract ends at the end of this season. It is not certain where he will be playing next season, but he has been linked with several big European clubs in addition to Barcelona.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the defender appeared in a recent interview and talked about his possible future. When asked when he would make a decision on his future, the German did not set a deadline but clarified that it would happen soon:
“I’ll make a decision soon… I don’t want to set a date. The truth is, it won’t be in two months.”
More importantly, Tah also expressed his desire to play outside of Germany:
“When you go to a place where you might not speak the language, it’s a particularly challenging experience. This also applies to my position, which I naturally want to fulfill within a team. It would demand a lot from me to get involved somewhere. That’s why going abroad is so appealing to me.”

The defender was also asked directly about Barcelona and their FFP problems, but he refrained from commenting on this:
“I have no influence over that. I can only make my own decisions, and everything else would have to come from others.”
Although Jonathan Tah did not give any clear indication about his future in this interview, his comment that he wants to play in a foreign league would still excite Barcelona fans about the possibility of him joining their team for the next season.
