FC Barcelona, after wrapping up the 2024/25 season, have shifted its focus to reinforcing the squad ahead of the next campaign. It is important to keep building and improving and moving to the next level under Hansi Flick.
The Catalan club have done a brilliant job in building an excellent squad. A new goalkeeper is the only position that needs reinforcement and this is where Deco seems to be focusing on. One of the players on their radar is Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia.
The main stumbling block in making this transfer happen is that Garcia plays for Barcelona’s eternal rivals, Espanyol. There aren’t many players who have crossed the Catalan divide and this is a major decision for the 24-year-old.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Joan Garcia was asked about his future and if he would entertain a move to Barcelona. The player neither confirmed nor denied the theory and gave a very coy response. He said:
“In football, every now and then news comes out, things come up. And just because it’s out there doesn’t always mean it’s true. But like I said, I’m very calm, and whatever has to be decided, I’ll definitely think it through carefully with my people and choose what’s best for me. And I’m sure that’s how it will be.”
The easiest thing for Joan Garcia to do here would have been to shut the door on a potential Barcelona move but he refrained from doing it. Reading between the lines, it could mean that it is an option that he is considering at this point.
The 24-year-old has revealed that he would make the decision he deems best for himself, along with his people. One would assume that this includes his agent Andy Bara, whose another client happens to be Barcelona midfield star Dani Olmo.

Despite playing for Espanyol, a move to Barcelona doesn’t often come knocking and by saying yes now, the 24-year-old has the chance to cement his status as the goalkeeper in one of the most exciting projects in Europe for a decade or more to come.
Joan Garcia has yet to commit either way, but his measured response suggests he’s open to considering Barcelona’s interest. For a player of his talent, the chance to join one of Europe’s most ambitious projects doesn’t come often. The next few days could be decisive as Barca weigh their options and Garcia reflects on what could be a career-defining move.
