Manchester City have confirmed the shock of the summer after signing İlkay Gündoğan for a second time.
The 33-year-old returns to Pep Guardiola’s side after spending a trophy-less season at Barcelona.
Gündoğan joined the Spanish giants in June 2023 following the expiration of his contract in Manchester. However, financial limitations have forced Barcelona to let the veteran depart.
The German international is the latest high-profile name to leave the Liga side due to monetary issues, joining the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.
Clubs from Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had reportedly registered an interest in Gündoğan but the Champions League winner has opted instead for a sensational Etihad reunion.
The midfielder first signed for Manchester City in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund and wore the captain’s armband helping win five Premier League titles and a coveted Champions League trophy.
