Villarreal head coach Marcelino has this evening made clear his frustration with the latest performance put forth by frontman Alexander Sørloth.

Villarreal, of course, were back in action a short time ago, welcoming Cádiz to El Madrigal for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, despite dominating when it came to possession and shots at goal alike, the Yellow Submarine were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing to a goalless stalemate.

A week on from his side putting five past Barcelona in Catalunya, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear of Marcelino being left altogether disappointed by his side’s attacking endeavours on Sunday.

And one member of his frontline to have been singled out for particularly heavy criticism comes in the form of Alexander Sørloth.

Speaking to the media as part of his post-match press conference, Villarreal’s headmaster took firm aim at striker Sørloth, for what he evidently perceived as a lacklustre display.

In fact, after hooking the Norwegian with just 45 minutes on the clock, Marcelino suggested that, had he performed at a similar level to that showcased at Barcelona, Sørloth would have been afforded more time to make his mark against Cádiz:

“In the first 45 minutes, he did not shoot on goal and he had time to do so. If Sorloth had been at Barcelona’s level, he would have spent more time on the field.”
