Manchester United have embarked on a new era under the guidance of manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese manager was reminded of the immense challenge ahead following United’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford scored inside two minutes, but a fantastic curling shot from Omari Hutchinson levelled the score.

Andre Onana had to pull off two world-class saves to help United earn a point.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes four players are ‘absolutely certain’ to play in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

“I think Luke Shaw if he can remain fit,” Neville said. “As I think that left centre-back needs to eventually be able to play out as a left-back, so he is well suited to do both.

“I think (Manuel) Ugarte will be a winner, just because I think in midfield, not just because he’s played for him before.

“I think (Kobbie) Mainoo and Ugarte for me, playing midfield – I think they’re absolute certs. I think Luke Shaw’s a certainty to play. I think he would be any way in a back four or a back three.

“I think ultimately you’ll end up with (Leny) Yoro as the right-centre-back – I think just because of that energy and that pace.

“So, I think the ones who are more flexible and agile are going to be the winners.”

Agility and intensity are crucial traits for Amorim

Neville has correctly identified four players who will play a crucial role under Amorim.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen lacked agility and intensity in midfield against the Tractor Boys.

Amorim was repeatedly seen giving instructions to the duo to press higher when out of possession.

The two 32-year-olds lack the pace and mobility to thrive in the new system.

Mainoo and Ugarte look to be an ideal pair to dominate the midfield.

Ugarte is a powerhouse midfielder and covers the ground with intensity. Mainoo’s technical ability and flair will help United to move the ball forward.

The former United captain also named Shaw in his list of four ‘winners’. The England international is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs when he is fit.

However, he has proved to be a liability over the last two years due to his injuries.

He made his comeback against Ipswich and immediately improved United.

Although he looked a bit rusty, he could be a strong option for the left centre-back role.

Yoro is another defender who can thrive under Amorim. He is young and has the speed to play as a right centre-back.
