Sections of the Barcelona fanbase have taken to social media in their numbers this evening, to defend head coach Xavi Hernández.
As much comes fresh off one of Barca’s better showings for some time.
After being held to a 1-1 stalemate by Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, Xavi and co. today turned their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front.
Eyeing a swift return to winning ways, the Blaugrana welcomed Getafe to Catalunya, for a La Liga clash.
And, when all was said and done, march on to three points is precisely what Barcelona managed.
After Raphinha marked his return to starting duties with the game’s opener on 20 minutes, further 2nd-half goals on the part of João Félix and Frenkie de Jong put the evening’s hosts out of sight, before Fermín López added some gloss to the scoreline late on.
Post-match, in turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of Barca boss Xavi, at long last, being afforded some overdue praise.
The Spanish tactician has of course long been singled out as something of a punching bag for his side’s struggles, with even large sections of the Blaugrana’s fanbase having turned on the club’s once-iconic midfielder.
