If a young Manchester City defender is set to remain at the club perhaps another defender is set to leave

Spanish reporter Nil Solà has previously reported that Vitor Reis was set to leave Manchester City this summer to spend the 25/26 season on loan at Girona. If City entered next season with the make-up of Pep Guardiola’s squad intact they would have seven centre-backs in their squad. That doesn’t appear to be a sustainable situation. Now a new report has emerged that indicates that Vitor Reis will not join Girona on loan. If Vitor Reis does stay at Manchester City for next season perhaps another centre-back or possibly two will leave the club this summer.

Vitor Reis will report for Manchester City pre-season training.

Brazilian reporter André Hernan reports that Vitor Reis will report to the beginning of Manchester City’s pre-season training. Furthermore, Hernan reports that there are currently no negotiations underway between City and Girona regarding a loan move for Reis. It remains to be seen whether or not Vitor Reis will be a part of Manchester City’s squad for next season.

If Vitor Reis stays at City perhaps another centre-back or two will leave the club.

As mentioned above currently there are seven centre-backs in Manchester City’s first team squad. It would be a major surprise if Manchester City entered next season with seven centre-backs. There wouldn’t be enough minutes to share around on first glance. Although it must be said that Manchester City were hit by injuries last season in defence. So perhaps it isn’t a far-fetched notion for City to have adequate cover at centre-back.

But being realistic having seven centre-backs isn’t sustainable. So if Vitor Reis does not leave Manchester City on loan perhaps another centre-back or two could leave. But who that could be remains to be seen. Manuel Akanji and John Stones do appear to be the prime candidates. Akanji could be surplus to requirements due to his age and the make up of City’s squad. John Stones constant injury issues could see him depart City this summer.

It remains to be seen if Vitor Reis will leave Manchester City on loan this summer. But for now he seemingly won’t be joining Girona. That could change but if Reis does stay at City this summer perhaps another centre-back or two could leave instead of the young Brazilian centre-back.
