Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer has admitted that he expects to see Josh Windass leave the club this summer, during an exclusive interview with Football League World.

The former Glasgow Rangers player has been one of the club’s few leading lights this season as they suffered relegation to Sky Bet League One on the final day of the campaign, with the 26-year-old having scored 10 goals across all competitions this term.

Inevitably this has seen the son of the former Hull City striker Dean Windass linked with a move away from Hillsborough, with the likes of Middlesbrough, Fulham, West Brom, Cardiff and Stoke City having all been credited with interest in the versatile forward.

With only one year left on his current contract with the Owls, there is much doubt surrounding the future of Windass.

Now, Palmer has had his say on the situation and made the following admission over the player’s future when speaking to FLW:

“A lot of clubs have shown interest in him from the Championship and why would he want to play in League One?

“Without a doubt, Sheffield Wednesday could satisfy his financial needs to stay there for another season, you know it’s one of those where Darren (Moore) may be able to sit down and try and show him what they are trying to do next season.

“But if you look at the likes of Fulham and West Brom, who are reportedly interested in him, these are teams that are looking to go back to the Premier League, not stay in the Championship.

“So, you know, I would be very surprised if he’s still there. I’d be very surprised.”

Speculation over the player’s future has ramped up in more recent times, with it being reported that Cardiff have already made an approach for the ex-Wigan Athletic man.
