QPR have been offered the chance to sign free agent, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and FLW's Hoops fan pundit urged the club to do so.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been pitched to numerous Championship clubs recently, including Queens Park Rangers.
This came from a Wales Online report, that claimed the likes of QPR, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Stoke City have all been offered the chance to sign the free agent this January. Blackburn Rovers were also among those clubs, but are understood to have passed on the offer due to concerns over the player's fitness.
Fosu-Mensah was last at Bayer Leverkusen, but suffered injury issues and only managed 30 appearances in three and a half years. Leverkusen famously won the Bundesliga title last season, but Fosu-Mensah failed to make a single appearance all season.
The 27-year-old has recently been training with Ajax in his home country, but is now being pitched to clubs in the Championship as he looks to get his career back on track.
Signing the defender would, of course, be a risk given his well-documented fitness issues, but nonetheless, he has made 49 Premier League appearances in his career, so could be much-needed experience.
Following the recent developments involving Fosu-Mensah, FLW spoke to their QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, who believes the defender would be a good short-term signing for Marti Cifuentes' side.
"If that is true about Timothy Fosu-Mensah, I'd be all over that. Obviously, he has not played a lot of football for a while, but if he can prove his fitness levels, I don't think you can be turning down a player of that sort of stature."
"He's still only 27, and he's had big experience playing in massive games already in his career. He's versatile aswell. You'd be happy with him covering at full-back, centre-half or possibly even as a defensive midfielder aswell. I think he's played all of those positions."
"It could be one of those where wages might be high, but if a deal can be done, then do it. Maybe, because of the risks attached, you would want to get him on a deal until the end of the season. He could be a great little addition."
"We've got Ashby and Dunne at right back. Ashby has been so, so poor, so I would be happy sending him back, but realistically will that happen?"
"Santos might get a loan out, so maybe there is room there for another full back and defensive cover. I'd be all over him and that could be a player coming in who could add real depth and quality to a side pushing for the top six."
Over the first few months of the season, it was looking as though it was going to be another relegation battle for QPR, but suddenly they find themselves looking up rather than down in the Championship table.
Cifuentes has worked wonders with this team over the last few weeks, and they currently sit 9th in the table, just four points outside the play-offs, which would have been impossible to imagine just a month or two ago.
QPR have won their last four league games to get to where they are, and they will be hoping that they can bring that momentum through the January transfer window and all the way to the end of the season.
Cifuentes will be looking to strengthen further, and perhaps Timothy Fosu-Mensah could arrive with the experience that they need if he can stay fit. Even if he is no more than defensive cover, he will likely offer a boost to the rest of the team ahead of their play-off push.
