Ibrahim Afellay has left Feyenoord. He was assistant coach at Feyenoord U19 for the past two years. A reason for the departure has not mentioned.
Afellay was appointed by Feyenoord as Robin van Persie’s right-hand man at Feyenoord U18 in mid-2023. He stayed with the group as they became the U19 before combining this with a position as assistant national coach with Netherlands U19.
Around 180 Feyenoord employees were present at the end-of-season gathering in Ridderkerk, where Afellay’s goodbye also took place. Attention was paid to the performances of this season, but also to 21 departing staff members (seen below). General manager Dennis te Kloese was reportedly on hand to address the team with a touching farewell.
Afellay will reportedly remain active at the KNVB. The 53-time Oranje international played for PSV, Barcelona, Schalke 04, Olympiakos and Stoke City during his well-travelled playing career.
