Former Arsenal star turned football pundit Ian Wright has backed Jadon Sancho to show his real potential next season after showing gradual progress this term.

The Manchester United winger didn’t have a fantastic season by any means. With nine goal contributions in the Premier League, we can definitely say he improved, but as one of the club’s highest earners we need to demand more from Jadon Sancho.

As much as the next Red, I hope that Sancho hits the ground running next season and begins to show the reasons why United decided to invest so much money to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

To be fair to Sancho, though, he has performed well in the closing stages of the season. That bodes well for this weekend’s FA Cup final against Man City.

United beat Fulham 2-1 on the final day of the Premier League season and Sancho got on the scoresheet.

Appearing on Match of the Day, Ian Wright said (via The Mail): “The potential that Ten Hag knows he has, he recognised that he needed a little bit of a break and sent him to Holland for a bit of physical and mental recuperation.

“Once he has that main focal point like he had at Dortmund with [Marco] Reus and people like that, he will do his stuff because we’re talking about somebody ability wise he is absolutely top drawer.

“He’s got six goals and three assists this season and I’m sure that from the money they paid for him they do want more from him, because I feel he’s starting to settle and you can feel that Man United will make more signings and he’ll have a lot more players to play off and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more from Jadon Sancho.”

Ultimately, it will come down to how Ten Hag feels about Sancho at the end of the season. Wright is correct to note how well the manager dealt with the situation midseason.
