Harry Brockbank is set for his first league start of the season this Saturday when Bolton Wanderers welcome Wigan Athletic.

Ian Evatt’s men will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Sheffield Wednesday last time out and Gethin Jones will likely miss out making way for Brockbank.

The 23-year-old made 13 starts for the club in League Two last season and Evatt was content to reveal his place in the line-up when he spoke to The Bolton News.

Evatt said: “I won’t be telling you the team – but Brocky (Harry Brockbank) will probably get a chance to play and hopefully he can take it because for him it is an emotional game, he’s a Bolton lad, so what a great opportunity for him.

“Brocky understands the movement required better than any of them, to be honest. His final third running and movement is excellent and so this is a big opportunity.”

The Trotters were left to rue missed chances at Hillsborough last weekend and they face an ever better side in Leam Richardson’s Latics on Saturday. Wanderers may not be able to create chances at will as they have been in recent weeks as other clubs become wiser to the threat of star man Oladapo Afolayan.

Have Bolton Wanderers had a higher or lower average attendance compared to these 23 sides this season?

Gethin Jones has been a great asset down the right flank for the Trotters so far this season and matching his energy and endeavour would be a good place to start for Brockbank. The 23-year-old gained some valuable experience in Bolton’s promotion push last term and should be able to step up to the occasion.

Evatt has a good squad size at his disposal, deep enough to provide healthy competition but also small enough to keep every player happy and pushing in the right direction. Lining up against James McClean will be a brutal examination of Brockbank’s credentials in the third tier in a match where Evatt will learn a lot about his right back cover option.
