Pierre Sage reflected on an epic victory for his Olympique Lyonnais side over high flyers Stade Brestois, which on a night with seven goals and two red cards, saw his early-season strugglers rise to seventh in the table placing them in contention for a European place.

Sage was never meant to last beyond Christmas; Bruno Génésio, Jorge Sampaoli, and even Igor Tudor were the likely candidates to take hold of the reigns, but instead, the interim was made permanent in December. The results of this decision have been innumerable, with the club climbing up the league table and into the Coupe de France final.

Sage took a chance after the 4-3 victory to admire the support the fans have shown for the team. “It’s a very positive fuel. Obviously, it gives us a lot of energy and it makes us want to play these matches in the league and the Coupe de France. We will become addicted to these emotions. This match, I will remember it for a long time, the supporters will remember it for a long time.”
