Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has commented on the summer links to the previously vacant Everton position, which is now occupied by former Reds manager Rafa Benitez.
Gerrard said, as quoted by ESPN: “I was very shocked and surprised that my name was linked with the job. (managing Everton) is never a possibility as far as I’m concerned.”
You can’t blame him for the comment, either, after winning Rangers’ first Scottish Premiership since the 2010/11 season. Leaving the club now would make little sense. Leaving the club in favour of Everton as a Liverpool legend would have left many extremely confused.
For now it seems as though he is transfixed on retaining the Scottish Premiership in an attempt to prevent Celtic gaining their revenge in the forthcoming season.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Whether the reports were true or not, nobody will ever know, but the sheer prospect of Steven Gerrard in the Goodison Park dugout is enough to scare Liverpool fans for life. Thankfully, the Liverpool legend has dismissed the idea.
With Benitez in charge, however, Everton could help an Anfield hero become something of a villain in the 21/22 season.
