In an interview with Téléfoot, Saïd Benrahma has opened up about his move from West Ham to Lyon almost collapsing on deadline day of the January transfer window.

Rewind to deadline day of the January transfer window, and Lyon were scrambling to complete the move of Saïd Benrahma from West Ham on loan until the end of the season. As the clocks ticked down towards the end of the window, the 28-year-old’s move to OL looked to be in doubt to the point where the club thought the transfer had collapsed.

With the deal all but collapsed, this led Lyon to slam West Ham’s ‘incomprehensible behaviour’ as they failed to submit the paperwork on time. However, upon appeal, FIFA granted approval for the move to take place and against all the odds OL signed Benrahma on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Asked about the move collapsing, the Algerian international said, “I was disappointed. What they did in Lyon was incredible. They were in the offices until 3:00am., 3:30am. They really wanted me! They gave everything and it was finalised.”
