The Foxes had to juggle an injury crisis for most of the last campaign, although they did register a record points tally.
It is fair to say that Leicester City are yet to show their full potential under new boss Amandine Miquel, however, goalkeeper Leitzig believes that The Foxes can achieve more if things go their way this term.
“I think we could have achieved more [last season]; ending up higher in the table and getting more points,” Leitzig said when speaking to WSL Full-Time. “We had a lot of injuries, especially early in the season and you could tell when we got players back that we started to play better. We also needed time to get used to the philosophy of the new manager.
“I’m really excited for the new season because I think there’s a lot of potential in the squad. Hopefully, everyone stays healthy and then I think we can achieve much more.”
Leicester City have rarely started well during their time in the top flight and Leitzig says that a solid start is an important target this year.
She said “This season, the league will be really tough but we know about our qualities. It’s just about focusing on ourselves and getting as many points as possible.
“It’s going to be really important for us to have a good start because we’ve been slow starters in the last couple of seasons and we’ve then kicked on in the second half of the season. It should be a goal to start strong then we can see where it takes us.”
Leicester City start the season with a tough fixture at Manchester United but Leitzig is looking forward to the challenge.
She said “I am really looking forward to it. Manchester United away is a nice game, it’s a big opponent right at the start.
“As I said, we have to start the season strong and there’s no better way to do that than against a top opponent. You have to be on top and have the best game to get some points out of it.”
Leicester City were winless on the road in 2024/2025. Leitzig believes that mentality can play a major part in The Foxes becoming more dangerous at opponents’ stadiums.
She said “It’s hard to say [how we can improve our away form], maybe the mentality. Everyone knows it’s really hard to get points at The King Power Stadium. It’s our home and we’ve got points and wins against good opponents.
“It’s just about having a mentality of being unbeatable away from home. It’s really important for this season that we are strong away from home too.”
Leicester City’s opening Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday 7 September 2025. Season tickets for the club’s home fixtures are on-sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.
