In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens has revealed he wants to move to the Bundesliga in the summer. The defender made it clear that he feels he is ready to take a step up in his career and would like to leave the club when the transfer window begins. Speaking about German football, Rommens said ‘I think that competition suits me perfectly…The atmosphere, the stadiums and the supporters also appeal to me’.
No clubs have been named as of yet, but there have reportedly been German sides, alongside clubs from the other top European leagues interested in the former Genk man. The 22-year-old could have moved to Saudi Arabia in the summer, but decided to remain in Belgium instead. He also revealed how he does not see the prospect of moving to a bigger club in Belgium because most clubs already have players that can play at left-back.
Asked if he had to choose this summer between a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and a Bundesliga side, the defender said that he prefers to move to Germany because of the level of football. Rommens has played 36 games for Westerlo this season, providing three assists.
