Liverpool came up against Manchester United at Old Trafford last night.

During the first half of the Premier League clash, Liverpool were awarded a penalty. Manchester United centre-back Eric Bailly appeared to have fouled Liverpool defender Nat Phillips inside the penalty area.

However, VAR highlighted that Bailly got a foot on the ball before clattering into Phillips. With that being the case, the penalty was not given.

However, former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that Liverpool were robbed of a penalty.

Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (9:19pm, May 13, 2021): “I think it was a penalty just because, okay, he gets the ball, but what happens afterwards. Reckless.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

As Bailly got a foot on the ball before taking out Phillips, we could understand why the penalty was not given.

We do agree with Keane that it was a reckless tackle by Bailly. If the centre-back gets that tackle slightly wrong, Liverpool would have been awarded a penalty.

But, at the end of the day, Bailly won the ball first.

The disallowed penalty did not impact Liverpool in the end. Jurgen Klopp’s side secured a 4-2 victory over Manchester United.
