Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke claims that new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will fail at Anfield, comparing him to Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

Slot was announced as Liverpool's new boss just a day after the end of the Premier League season, with the 45-year-old taking over from the legendary Jurgen Klopp.

The former Feyenoord manager arrives on Merseyside with a glowing reputation having guided the Rotterdam club to a Europa Conference League final, an Eredivisie title and a KNVB Cup following his appointment in 2021.

Known for his intense, high-octane approach, Slot has been backed to succeed at Anfield by plenty of his compatriots, including Liverpool cult hero Dirk Kuyt.

However, ex-Man Utd striker Yorke expects Slot to find life difficult in English football, continuing a tradition of Dutch coaches struggling in the Premier League.

DWIGHT YORKE EXPECTS ARNE SLOT TO FAIL

Speaking with Crypto Casinos (via Liverpool.com), Yorke believes that the competitiveness of the English top flight will prove too much for Slot to handle.

"Can anyone confidently say there has been a good Dutch manager outside of the Netherlands in recent years? I think Arne Slot will fail to impress, the same way Erik ten Hag has," claimed Yorke.

"The Dutch philosophy has been a thing for 25 years now, the legacy seems to live on even though their national team isn't even that good anymore.

"No Dutch manager has stood out to me, other than Louis van Gaal, but top clubs like Liverpool and Man United are signing these Dutch managers based on Johan Cruyff's philosophy.

"Ronald Koeman is another one who has struggled. Arne Slot did do well in the Eredivisie but you'd also expect managers at the top Dutch clubs to do well since there are not a lot of teams in that league that can compete with the top.

"But Slot hasn't shown any proof that he can adapt to British football and neither has any other Dutch manager."

The next six weeks will prove crucial for Slot prior to Liverpool's Premier League opener with Ipswich Town as he looks to get his message across to a new group of players in pre-season.

There could also be movement for the Reds in the transfer market, although things have been relatively quiet for Liverpool so far.
