Journalist Paul Gorst believes that both Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic could be sold this summer.

Both Wilson and Grujic spent the 2019-20 season out on loan at Bournemouth and Hertha Berlin respectively.

Gorst told the Liverpool Echo that pre-season is set to be shorter than normal because of the pandemic.

With that being the case, pre-season will apparently be used to help get Liverpool’s first-team players up to speed.

As Wilson and Grujic have been out on loan, neither have been a part of Liverpool’s first-team recently.

Gorst is ultimately suggesting that Wilson and Grujic will not get much opportunity throughout pre-season.

Gorst believes that if decent offers come in for Wilson and Grujic, they will more than likely be sold.

However, he did state that clubs are not spending too much money at this current moment.

Gorst told the Liverpool Echo: “Wilson and Grujic are tough ones – I was told a while back they’d get pre-season to show they belong.

“But now pre-season will be really short and will be about getting the stars up to 100 per cent, so what happens to them now is a difficult one to predict.

“I suspect if good offers come in they will be sold but clubs aren’t spending. Grujic has a lot to get past. Wilson has more of a chance [of becoming a part of the squad].”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

At the end of the day, the first XI players are the priority.

If pre-season is shortened dramatically, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will have to give minutes to the players that are set to play in the opening game of the 2020-21 Premier League season.

Klopp can’t have his key players underdone for that particular clash. He needs them to be ready to go, and that is because opposition sides will not be holding back against the champions of England.

It would be fair to assume that opposition teams will want to get one over Liverpool simply because they are the champions.

If Wilson and Grujic don’t get much opportunity throughout pre-season, then so be it. It will be interesting to see what the club do with the aforementioned players.
