I agree with the new Newcastle United owners that tea towels belong in the kitchen drawer but for entirely different reasons.

The first reason is, it’s not a good look.

No one looks good with a tea towel on their head and it gives other people a reason for mocking Newcastle United fans.

The second, and more important reason, why I think we should put the tea towels away, is because it plays into the narrative that Newcastle United is now just a branch of the Saudi government.

As far as I’m concerned, just because I support the team it doesn’t mean I support their regime.

I know that in the past Man City supporters have leapt to the defence of the Abu Dhabi regime when it has been criticised for its treatment of foreign workers, or human rights abuses, but let’s not be like those people.

Just because our new owners are putting money into the football club, doesn’t mean we can’t be critical of what’s going on in Saudi Arabia.

tea towels, or waving Saudi flags and giving our owners their unconditional love.

I support the team not the regime.
