I predicted the results of all remaining games for the Champions League chasers – Doing pretty well

Last week, I predicted the results of all the remaining matches involving the five Premier League teams chasing the final three Champions League places.
Liverpool had already claimed one of the five places and Arsenal all but guaranteed to fill another spot.
So that left Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest fighting over the remaining three Champions League places.
My article last Thursday (8 May) on The Mag, predicted the final 13 Premier League matches involving the five clubs.
With four of the 13 games now played and nine remaining, I thought it was interesting and worthwhile to revisit my predictions and what the actual reality has proved to be (actual results in brackets).
Saturday 10 May
Southampton v Man City (3pm) Man City win (Southampton 0 Man City 0)
Bournemouth v Villa (5.30pm) Draw (Bournemouth 0 Villa 1)
Sunday 11 May
Newcastle v Chelsea (12pm) Newcastle win (Newcastle United 2 Chelsea 0)
Forest v Leicester (2.15pm) Draw (Forest 2 Leicester 2)
Friday 16 May
Villa v Spurs (7.30pm) Villa win
Chelsea v Man U (8.15pm) Chelsea win
Sunday 18 May
West Ham v Forest (2.15pm) Forest win
Arsenal v Newcastle (4.30pm) Draw
Tuesday 20 May
Man City v Bournemouth (8pm) Draw
Sunday 25 May
Fulham v Man City (4pm) Man City win
Man U v Villa (4pm) Villa win
Newcastle v Everton (4pm) Newcastle win
Forest v Chelsea (4pm) Draw
That has now left the Premier League table looking like this (on 14 May 2025):
Now I accept that I only got two of my four predictions correct at the weekend but I got two massive ones correct.
I was certain that Newcastle would beat Chelsea and that Leicester wouldn’t lose in their derby match at Forest. Those two results mean Newcastle are now overwhelming favourites to finish top five, Forest are big outsiders, whilst Chelsea with plenty of work to do.
My main thought last week was that I felt very confident that our four rivals would drop plenty of points in the remaining matches, including unexpected ones.
I got Forest correct on Sunday but I managed to get Man City and Villa the wrong way round. In reality though, Villa in no way deserved the win on balance of play and Bournemouth should have really won, having more and better chances. On the other hand, Man City totally dominated their game at Southampton but created minimal clear chances.
Ahead of Newcastle’s match at Arsenal, I have got wins locked in for all three of Chelsea, Villa and Forest. However, I have to admit that I am very much doubting Forest will win now, even though it is (away) against West Ham. Plus, I am for some strange reason, feeling like Man U will somehow manage to stop Chelsea winning…
Anyway, taking today’s Premier League table I have now added my original predictions on the last nine games for the five clubs, which if they come true, at the end of the season the places third to seventh in the Premier League would look like this:
70 points – Newcastle United
