Jason Cundy has revealed he wouldn’t start Enzo Fernandez against Leicester City and would stick with the pairing of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The Premier League returns this weekend with Chelsea making the trip to Enzo Maresca’s former club Leicester, as they begin what is a busy run up to Christmas.

The Blues currently sit third in the league and will be looking to consolidate their position in the top four over the festive period and improve their current form which has seen them win just one of their last five league games.

Maresca will likely make full use of his squad with the fixtures coming thick and fast and rotation in the Premier League can be expected.

The Blues are facing a potential issue in midfield with the extent of Lavia’s hamstring injury unclear after missing both of Belgium’s Nations League games, whilst Fernandez and Caicedo aren’t due back from South America until Thursday, just 48 hours before the game.

It will be interesting to see what Maresca decides to do and there could be an opportunity for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who hasn’t featured regularly in the league.

Former Blue Cundy has been speaking about Chelsea’s midfield and stated he wouldn’t start Fernandez against the Foxes.

“I personally wouldn’t start Enzo (against Leicester City), I would stick to Lavia and Caicedo. But it won’t surprise me if he starts,” he told talkSPORT.

Given how careful the Blues have been with Lavia it would be a surprise if he starts and they won’t want to take a risk given the amount of fixtures coming up.

Maresca has insisted he has no reason not to trust Fernandez and recently praised his performance against Arsenal.

It’s likely the Argentine will return to the starting line-up at the King Power Stadium and he will need to make the most of any opportunity he’s given.
