Borussia Dortmund maintained the pressure on Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga race after securing a comprehensive 5-1 victory over SC Freiburg on Friday night. It was a clinical performance from the Bundesliga giants, with Thomas Meunier and Erling Haaland scoring a brace before Mahmoud Dahoud rounded things up with a late strike.

Shortly after the game, Haaland was asked to comment on his future amid interest from a host of clubs across Europe. The Norweigian subsequently opened up on his relationship with the club, offering an update on his current situation while insisting he wants to focus on his football at the moment.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted excerpts from Haaland’s post-game interview with Jan-Aage Fjortoft, where the Dortmund striker stated: “Borussia Dortmund are now pushing me to make a decision about things… but I just want to play football. That probably means that I will soon have to get things started. I never spoke until now to respect the club.”

Part of the Dortmund side since 2020, Haaland’s current contract at Ruhrpott expires in 2024. There have been suggestions that he could leave the club at the end of the season especially after Dortmund’s shock exit from the Champions League group stages this season.

When asked about a potential hint on his future, Haaland responded: “Not now… in any case, not now. Now we’ve a though period with a lot of matches. But BVB want me to decide now.”

Erling Haaland’s comments could serve as a major hint for top clubs across Europe including Manchester United, who are reportedly in a position to afford the Norwegian next season despite their ongoing struggles on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Haaland’s brace against Freiburg on Friday put an end to his longest goalscoring drought at Dortmund – a grand total of just two games. The former RB Salzburg forward has netted an astonishing 78 goals in just 77 competitive matches for the Black and Yellows, during his ongoing two-year spell in Germany.
