Michael Dawson wants Tottenham newboy Richarlison to be reliable whenever called upon

Speaking in an interview as quoted by Football. London, former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson wants Antonio Conte to use Richarlison in a similar way to how Pep Guardiola used Gabriel Jesus at Man City.

Dawson is of the opinion that Richarlison might not be a starter for the Lilywhites and will have to settle for a place behind the impressive front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, the former defender has insisted that the Brazilian striker who can play anywhere across the front three, must be on top of his game and impress whenever called upon by Antonio Conte.

Dawson went on to refer to the example of Gabriel Jesus, who used to fill in for Aguero whenever the Argentinian striker needed rest and was impressed whenever given a chance by Guardiola.

“Richarlison has come in to try and keep the levels when Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski or Son Heung-min don’t play. He’s not in the front three in my opinion. I look at Pep. He did it with Jesus. He always used to come in for five or six games and you’d go: ‘Wow, what a player.’ Richarlison has to be that player when he’s called upon”

Richarlison signed for Spurs from Everton this summer as a part of Antonio Conte’s major rebuild. He was signed for a substantial fee and is expected to be a key player for the Italian tactician.

The Brazilian striker was a key player for the Merseysiders whenever called upon and was a regular starter during his time there. He could however find himself with much less game time at N17.

Richarlison is an option for all three forward roles

He will have to adapt to the idea of not being the main player for the team since at Everton, the Brazilian was the fulcrum of the whole team. There are much more established players like Harry Kane.

Richarlison is singing that can potentially make or break Spurs’ season. He will be crucial for the Lilywhites over such a long season and it remains to be seen how the Brazilian plays for Spurs.
