Martin Terrier (27) has hinted that he would be open to a return to his formative club Lille OSC if Stade Rennais cannot secure Champions League football.

Terrier had developed in the Lille academy system making his debut for the club’s reserves in 2015 and his full-team debut the following year. However, it’s at Rennes that the winger has spent the majority of his career, scoring his 50th goal for the club against Olympique de Marseille on the weekend.

It was a crucial game for the two teams in their hunt for Europe and allowed Rennes to draw level with Marseille on points, as they both hope to force their way into the Champions League positions. Eight games remain for Rennes and four points separate them and Terrier’s former team Lille in the final Champions League slot.

However, Terrier is considering his option if Rennes cannot manage to find their way back into the Champions League. Speaking to Amazon Prime, “We don’t know what the future will hold but it’s a regret not to have managed to play longer [at Lille]. I imagined myself playing in the Champions League there one day.”

“I hoped to spend a good part of my career in Lille.” A possibility that might become more viable if Lille qualify for the Champions League and Rennes do not.
