After claiming the UEFA Champions League title for the first time in Manchester City’s history, as part of a historic Treble-winning campaign last season, some have questioned whether Guardiola may deem it to be the end of a cycle for the reigning European winners.

With Manchester City now also into the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, and having already claimed the UEFA Super Cup, fresh questions have been posed to Pep Guardiola over the possibility of future steps into international management.

Speaking to the media, as relayed by journalist Mike Minay, Pep Guardiola responded to questions on the possibility of managing Spain’s national team in the future by reaffirming his happiness with life at Manchester City.

“I’m so really happy being here with this club,” Guardiola admitted.

“Really, really happy. Still I have one more year (remaining on his contract). Hopefully they don’t sack me and I can stay here, the time still with this club.”

It has recently been speculated that Manchester City may have to brace for a double departure from the Etihad Stadium when the time ultimately comes for Pep Guardiola to call an end on the most successful period of the club’s history.

Some sources close to the club have suggested that director of football Txiki Begiristain may also opt to retire from his position at Manchester City when his colleague and close friend Guardiola decides to end his time.

Begiristain is widely credited as playing a significant role in Manchester City’s success over the years, building numerous high-profile winning squads and being the man behind some of the finest pieces of transfer business seen within the sport.

For now, Manchester City are opting to show the upmost respect to both men with regards to their futures at the football club, leaving them to make decisions on their careers in their own time and not giving off the impression of stress with regards to timeframes over decisions.
