Sheffield Wednesday rose to League One’s summit at the weekend by securing a 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Hillsborough.
Callum Paterson’s seventh-minute strike proved to be the difference as the division’s top two faced off in Yorkshire and now it is the Owls who lead the way because of their superior goal difference.
Sheffield Wednesday also have a game in hand on the Pilgrims whilst they are also six points above Ipswich Town in third.
Asked if a different kind of pressure will be applied now they are top of the league, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “I think it’s a great position to be in, because when you get into this stage of the season, with 18 games to go, teams can’t come and sit in at Hillsborough as they need the points to stay in the league or to go for a playoff place.
“Sheffield Wednesday have built this excellent run. I mean, six successive wins, five clean sheets. It’s a tremendous run.

“So, it’s a great position to be in and I fully expect them to continue kicking on.”
The verdict
There is certainly scope for a different kind of pressure to kick in, but ultimately, Sheffield Wednesday have been absolutely fantastic in recent weeks and it is a confident camp.
Of course, they will likely be tested in the remaining games and if they do slip up, it will be interesting to see how they respond to a setback.
Derby County’s excellent recent record will also be something to keep an eye on, as it previously seemed like a three-horse race but Paul Warne’s side have pulled themselves into the automatic promotion race.
If they are able to extend this winning run at Ipswich Town on Saturday, then confidence levels will reach even higher heights, all whilst dealing a big blow to a promotion-chasing rival.
