Sebastien Haller is unsuited to the West Ham playing style and will struggle to thrive under David Moyes.

That is according to Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley about the club-record Hammers signing.

Haller, 26, has been handed an extended run during Michail Antonio’s absence and scored just his third league goal of 2020 with his emphatic winner in the 1-0 triumph against Sheffield United last weekend.

Agbonlahor explained that West Ham’s style will not get the best out of the 2019 signing as there is not enough quality service into the box.

It is an assessment that manager David Moyes agrees with after he recently expressed his frustration recently about the lack of crosses for Haller.

“I feel sorry for Haller,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider. “When I look at Haller, Joelinton and Wesley at Aston Villa I see them as similar players.

“They need the right service. If you’re not getting balls into the box and crosses in, they’re not going to score goals.

“You can’t play Haller in the formation that West Ham are playing at the moment. They need to play a quick striker or there’s no point playing them.

“You look at Joelinton, he rarely plays at the moment because Newcastle don’t play to his strengths or the way he needs it played.

“Managers now they love pace. They don’t look really now for strikers that are slow and hold the ball up and play long balls.

“You look up most teams in the Premier League now they’ve got quick attacking players.

“That’s the problem with Haller, another manager brought him in. The style that David Moyes wants to play is not going to suit him.”
