Charlton Athletic are among the clubs considering a move for Ipswich Town forward Ali Al-Hamadi.

It has been reported by Teamtalk that the Addicks are one of the sides who have taken an interest in the striker this summer.

It is believed that adding a new forward is not a priority for Nathan Jones’ side at the moment after the arrival of Charlie Kelman.

However, it’s been claimed that Al-Hamadi’s preference is to remain in the Championship amid links to Luton Town and Cardiff City.

When asked about a possible deal for Al-Hamadi, FLW’s Charlton fan pundit Emma Harknett claimed the club should avoid this signing.

She believes the team has enough forward options, and is wary of the Addicks’ history of poor signings from Ipswich.

“No, would be my answer, I don’t want him,” Harknett told Football League World.

“One, we’ve got a really bad history of signing players from Ipswich.

“Every player we seem to get from them isn’t very good, and I think we’re quite heavily stacked in the striker department.

“I don’t think we need one.

“It doesn’t really come with good reviews from Ipswich fans.

“We already have on the books Charlie Kelman, Tanto Olaofe, Miles Leaburn, Daniel Kanu, Gassane Ahadme, Matty Godden is due to come back from injury.

“I would imagine Gassane and Daniel will be going out of the club, but that still leaves us quite well stacked.

“And in pre-season I’ve been very impressed with the partnership that Miles Leaburn and Tanto Olaofe have struck up.

“I think we’ve got enough senior strikers, I don’t think it would be a position we’d be looking to fill.

“So, no I wouldn’t want him, I think it would be a waste.”

Up next for Charlton is a trip to face Bristol City on 16 August.

Charlton don’t need Al-Hamadi move

Charlton have brought in Kelman and have Leaburn and Olaofe to choose from, so Jones’ squad isn’t short of attacking options.

Al-Hamadi has also yet to show he can perform well consistently at a Championship level, contributing six goals from 30 appearances at this level.

A move to League One would potentially make more sense, with it being understandable that Ipswich want to offload him.

Between Luton and Cardiff’s interest, Charlton should stay away from getting involved with this transfer battle for the time being.
