As is the case with other clubs in playing in Europe, FC Barcelona have reached the most important stretch of the season. However, unlike some a vast majority of these clubs, the Catalans are not only competing for all the possible titles, but are also among the favourites to win the treble this year.
Undoubtedly, Hansi Flick deserves a lot of credit for turning around the fortunes of a team that had to end the last season without any trophies. Keeping in view his management in general and the way he has once again made the Blaugrana team one of the most feared in Spain and Europe, the Catalan club is highly satisfied with his work so far.
As a result, there has been speculation about a possible contract renewal for the Barcelona coach for quite some months now, even though an agreement for an extension is yet to be reached between the two parties.
Flick talked to the press today, ahead of the game against Leganes, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, one of the subjects he addressed in this presser was his renewal.
The German coach talked at some length on this topic, and revealed he prefers short term commitments:
“My answer will be rather long. I truly appreciate and enjoy what I have here with a magnificent staff and fantastic experts and doctors. The players are very professional and have the mindset of improving day by day—it’s something unique in my professional career.
There’s a fantastic atmosphere; it’s like a family. All the club’s employees are incredible, and that’s amazing. I’m enjoying being in Barcelona and around its people; it’s a new experience for me.
The Barcelona coach went on to say:
I have a lot of energy, and I’m always thinking about what I can do to improve, but right now we’re just starting the project. I’m not a coach who thinks three years ahead—what I love is working for the best club in the world, and I truly value what we have here.
The situation at the club isn’t easy, but we’re all doing our best. That’s the current state of things. I have one year left, and if things go well, maybe another. That’s the way I think—step by step, year by year. I don’t think we’re done yet. In the end, I don’t know how much longer we have, but I want to finish my work here on a high note.
On top of that, my assistants are happy. We need to focus on the season because there’s a lot to do. First Leganés, then Dortmund.”
There is no doubt that most of the fans would be keen to see Flick commit to Barcelona on a longer term as he has proven without any doubt that he is a perfect coach for the Blaugrana side. Hopefully, the two parties will be able to work together for years to come, and write a shared chapter of glory in the Blaugrana club’s history.
