“I don’t think he gets enough credit” hot-shot Jota reserves special praise for Greg Taylor

Amongst all the clamour to wax lyrical about the overall performance and howitzer of his goal, our Portuguese superstar, Jota, reserved special praise for his teammate and man of the match Greg Taylor today. Both men were interviewed by Sky Sports after the match and Jota was given the task of handing the full-back his award.

Greg has developed into the role Ange Postecoglou has given him since he arrived at Celtic Park in the June of 2021, playing the inverted full-back position in a quietly unassuming way. Last season there still remained doubts over whether or not he was the answer although he still managed to help us overcome our rivals to win the cinch Premiership league crown.

This season however, the former Kilmarnock man has been nothing short of exceptional in his position; carrying out the managers instructions to a tee and ensuring the flow of the side remains the same. His introverted role has saw him play closer beside captain Callum McGregor, a partnership that seems to be bearing fruit on the field of play for sure.

The left-back’s passing today was on point and in particular, the ball through to Daizen Maeda to set up Kyogo for the first goal of the match early on was class. On several occasions he kept hold of the ball when it looked like there was no avenue away from danger and he linked up well with all of his teammates.

His consistency was recognised by the stratospheric Jota and it goes to show the special bond and unity that currently resides within the walls of Lennoxtown. During the post-match interview, Jota said: “First of all, I think I should speak about Greg because he’s been unbelievable this season. He’s a top player, he’s delivering in every game and his standards in every game are unbelievable. I don’t think he gets enough credit.”

The winger’s acknowledgement Greg Taylor and his qualities is fundamental to ensuring Angeball works. Everyone is part of the whole and no one part of this well-oiled machine is superior to the other in the grand scheme of things. It’s the same reason Brenford hammered Manchester United 4-0 last night; they play for each other and as a whole. There is so much more to come from these two men this season as we are only three games in!
