After six years at Sheffield United, Ollie Norwood is looking for a new club this summer after being one of five senior players to be released by the Blades.

The 33-year-old helped the club win two promotions to the Premier League, and has experienced three years of Premier League football thanks to his time as a United player.

However, this summer feels like the end of an era at Bramall Lane, with over 1,000 Sheffield United appearances departing as free agents as Chris Wilder looks to build for the future.

Norwood has been linked with Watford, Hull and Sunderland, according to Football Insider, so it appears that the former Northern Irish international won't struggle for a Championship move this summer.

Hull City fan pundit has mixed emotions on potential Ollie Norwood deal

As one of the clubs linked with a move for Ollie Norwood, FLW's Hull City fan pundit Ant Northgraves is struggling to see where the midfielder would fit into the club's plans.

However, Ant believes that he could be a decent squad player if he was willing to accept he wouldn't be in the starting XI on a weekly basis.

Speaking to Football League World, Ant said: "We were linked with him a couple of years ago when he went to Sheffield United.

"He’s a very good player at what he does, which is sitting in the hole, dictating play and dictating the tempo of the game, and he’s got an impressive passing range.

"But when you’ve got the likes of Jean Michael Seri, I just don’t see how he’d fit in the side alongside him, and he’s getting to an age now where he’s not going to be a box-to-box midfielder. “Seri’s definitely better at that role than Norwood is, but it’s an interesting link and a free transfer, so from a rotational aspect, it might make sense, but I imagine that the owners will be looking at more youthful players, like they have done since taking over - excluding Billy Sharp. “They’ll be looking for players with value to sell on at a higher price, whereas Norwood is coming to the end of his career and his value is only getting less as time goes on.

"An interesting proposition, and it’s a free transfer, so he could be a squad rotation option, but I’d imagine that he’s going to want to go somewhere he can play every week and I don’t think he will here."

It's quite a surprise to see Hull and Sunderland linked with Ollie Norwood

Given both clubs have opted to sign younger players to try and develop them into assets that can be sold in the future, it's something of a surprise to see the likes of Sunderland and Hull interested in a move for Ollie Norwood.

As our Hull fan pundit Ant pointed out, the Tigers did sign Billy Sharp, so they do have form for signing the odd old head here and there, but you'd have thought that Norwood would be demanding a longer contract than the short-term one Sharp was given by the Tigers.

However, this may be an indication that the owners at both Sunderland and Hull have come to the realisation that to challenge for promotion in this division, you need experience, and whilst you may not make money off them in the future, they can pay you back by winning promotion.

Fans of the two clubs will really hope that being interested in Norwood means that they've both slightly adapted their transfer policies, and that they'll continue to be interested in further experienced players this summer.

It's important to strike the correct balance between having youth and experience, and it appears that Hull owner Acun Ilicali is determined to find the right balance given their reported interest in Norwood - whether they sign him though is another matter.
